Marvel Rivals: is it just another Overwatch clone or something more? I think you’d need to be Dr. Strange wielding the power of the Time Stone to know for sure, but personally I’m having a blast so far! So as an enjoyer of the game, here are a few quality of life improvements I think the team could make to keep the game in The Sacred Timeline.

Tooltip Enhancement #1

Whether you want to learn more about their comic book lore or in-game abilities, each character has a dedicated page where players can learn anything and everything. Well, almost everything…

Opportunity: Allow players to learn exactly how much of an impact their abilities are having without needing to consult an online resource or the game’s patch notes whenever a balance change is made.

Simple Solution: Introduce a toggle element that allows players to access more information.

Thinking Out Loud: A game like this is always in flux, with characters constantly getting buffed and debuffed, so from a development standpoint it’s possible that this would have been a major effort to implement.

But generally speaking, more often than not it’s better to give players access to more details than to leave them guessing. And since not every ability is as straightforward as the one above, it would be smarter to give players the option to toggle the information rather than bog down every tooltip with more information.

Tooltip Enhancement #2

If certain characters are on the same team, players get access to a unique Team Up Ability—they’re pretty freaking cool, not gonna lie.

But I do have one minor nit-pick in how the abilities are explained.

Opportunity: Streamline the text to be more relevant to the character the player is currently learning about.

Simple Solution: Less words.

Thinking Out Loud: If I’m on the Thor page, I want to know all the characters that Thor can enhance. But if I’m learning about Captain America, I don’t need to know how Thor can enhance Storm. Is it the worst thing in the world for a player to know more about another facet of the game or how to get the most out of a Team Up Ability? Absolutely not. But there’s a bit of friction when a player is forced to learn about how this Team Up Ability enhances a different character first before learning about their own.

New Feature:
Post-Match Team-up Option

Picture this—you just got done handing out an ass-kicking the likes of which hadn’t been seen since Avengers: Endgame with a lobby full of randoms and you want to run it back. Should be easy as Thanos snapping the ol’ gold glove, right? Eh…

I upvoted all my teammates after this round, I swear.

Opportunity: Make it easy for players to team up with other players they just played together with.

Simple Solution: Add another banner.

Thinking Out Loud: When I first started playing, I thought the “ONE MORE ROUND” option was absolutely offering some kind of squad-up functionality, but it’s just the prompt to start a new game with new players (or whoever you’ve been playing with if you already in a pre-made group). I think clarifying the language a giving players an easy way to continue playing together can help the experience feel more intuitive and seamless.
